CAKE EATER takes us into the mind of a paranoid, self-protective curmudgeon who doesn’t get out much. Through audience-directed rants and surreal dance breaks, we explore gentrification and anti-black racism through the eyes of an absurd mash-up of archetypes: Second Wave Feminist, Lone American Individualist, and Crone. She is seductive and strange, living in an abstracted version of New York that is at once familiar and slightly to the left. CAKE EATER challenges audiences to question their assumptions about identity and authenticity, who they are and who they aren’t.
